2nd peak of our three-peak/point hike today (Glacier Point-Sentinel Dome-Taft Point).
Sentinel Dome was the only "real mountain" which we climbed today.
It's basically a wide stony dome, which already explains its Name, no surprises there. The mountain is located about halfway between the two other mountains of today's hike, but is quite easy to climb. The cool thing about it, is that it's located outside the tree line and this makes it possible to get a good view of the opposite side of the valley (see pictures below). For example from here you get a nice view to the west and therefore to the famous El Capitan wall and the Yosemite Falls, having said that in eastern direction the forest around Glacier Point blocks the hiker's sight; in that direction you only see the top of the famous Half Dome.
There are easier and more difficult ways to reach this mountain than the one we have chosen, you could for example walk from the Glacier Point Pass road and be on top it within 30 minutes or you could climb the whole mountain from the bottom of the Yosemite valley for 4.5 hours. We decided for a hike which is in the middle of those two in terms of length and needed strength (after all Katrin is currently pregnant), the route can be found below.
Cool mountain, but if you want to be alone, it is better to come early in the morning during the week, because from the pass road, the lazier type of tourists will start to come along for sure due to its good accessibility :-)
