50th summit in Switzerland
This peak is a "secondary summit" without an own chapter in the guides. It's mentioned in path 448 to Monte Boglia, explained on page 350 of the 5th CAS Volume about the region of Ticino (Guida alle prealpi ticinesi).
Sasso Rosso is the 23rd-smallest Summit in Ticino.
I only realised that this was an official peak a few minutes before starting our walk today to Monte Boglia.
We decided to hike up this mountain as we had some friends over from Zürich and Austria and it's the peak which is the easiest to hike up to directly from our house (..you also get one of the best views of the Sottoceneri region).
On our way down we went up this little side-peak which was my 50-thiest in Switzerland.
When you walk up to it from the Swiss side (through the woods), you don't really understand why they mentionned it as a peak, but when on the Italian side of the Lugano Lake, the Sasso Rosso is the top of a 150 meter vertical cliff and clearly appears as an obvious peak over the lake.
