Hiked for the first time as part of the Trans-Swiss Trail (part 2) but many more ascents have followed during the years..a dozen at least.
There are different ways to reach the top; my first ascent was made following the trail coming up from the south side starting from Morcote following the paths 810 and then 806 (from Ciona) explained in the official guides of the CAS (Swiss Alpine Club) pages 518 and 523 of the 5th volume (Guida alle Prealpi Ticinesi).
San Salvatore is the 7th-smallest Mountain in the Canton Ticino.
The mountain gives many possibilities for an ascent, also an easier one on a path coming from the Eastern ridge.
The easier/shorter and "normal way" is to walk straight up from Lugano (Paradiso) reaching the top from the northern side.
It's the most famous mountain in Lugano as it stands as an icon on all pictures and helps the city to be also famous for being a "little Rio de Janeiro". The shape of Monte San Salvatore and it's position directly at the lake help in underlining this perception.
Level: T2 (from South and North)
