The Salmone is listed at page 310 of the 1st Book of the CAS Guides about the Ticino-Region (Dal Gridone al Passo del San Gottardo) and was the last and highest of today's 3 peaks hike (Testa- Testin - Salmone).
A beautiful summit which can be visited all around the year. I wouldn't recommend it for summer though because as it's so low, I can imagine that the sun burns down heavily and the air is not that fresh as you would wish for (maybe in the early morning).
We probably chose the most difficult way up but there are a lot of different paths to reach the cross placed on top, therefore everyone can choose what fits him best.. they are all on an easy level (max T2+), it's just the climb in meters which varies quite a bit.
Today we started from the Village of Verscio and passed the Ridge with the two secundary peaks Testa and Testin. The height of this one resulted to be perfect for today, only on top there was a bit of snow.
It was the first time for us to hike in the Maggia Valley but i'm sure it won't be the last, looking around I've already seen some very interesting summits and already started programming something around here for next year.
You get beautiful views of Locarno and its surroundings from the top of this one as well as during most of the time during the walk.
Regarding difficulty, there is nothing special to report, there is an easy path which goes through from top to bottom. Having said that if you choose to take the same path we took, I recommend to check out the route below .. all in all it still was a steep 1350 meters of positive altitude which needed to be conquered because the Village where we started from is one of the lowest in Switzerland with 280 meters.
