Poncione d'Arzo (CH) / Monte Pravello (IT) - 1 015 meters

Nr 41

This was the first peak in todays 2 summit hike (Poncione d'Arzo, Monte Orsa).

We took the northern route up, coming from Crocifisso following path 816, explained in the official guides of the CAS (Swiss Alpine Club) at page 533 of the 5th volume (Guida delle Prealpi ticinesi).

The Poncione d'Arzo (or Monte Pravello as it's called by the Italians) is the 10th-smallest mountain in the Canton Ticino. It's a Mountain with two peaks and on a few maps they name them differently (Poncione d'Arzo and Monte Pravello).. I went on both but decided to count it as one only peak (the one in Switzerland) which is also the only one named in the guides I'm usually referring to.

The summit is exactly located on the border between Switzerland and Italy, as can be seen in the pictures below. In fact the whole hike up on path 816 is a walk along this border for more or less an hour.

The hike itself is very easy and exactly what we needed for today. Not too high up (it's january and the temperatures are below 0°) and not too long, we were out there for about 3,5 hours.

the + in the level is because of the last 150 meters before the summit as it's very steep and at some point you really need to mind your step to not roll down the mountain. Having said that, the path is always very clear and easy.
