Highest summit of the day (out of a hike of 5 peaks including, Giübin, Rotstock, Posmeda, Pizzo Canariscio).
It's completely off-path and most of the hike is made out of (bigger and smaller) rocks. There are a few places where you need to climb a bit and therefore it's likely to find some slightly exposed sections with danger of falling.
Having said that, it's for now my favourite mountain I've hiked so far.
We took the southern route up coming from Giübin following path 134 explained in the official guides of the CAS (Swiss Alpine Club), page 149 of the 3rd volume (Guida delle alpi ticinesi, dal Passo San Gottardo al Pizzo di Claro).
The route which sometimes is exactly on the ridge, is shown in the third picture below.
Another interesting fact, is that it's likely to encounter alpine ibexes up here. In fact, we've seen 6 of them and came pretty close. Unfortunately the pictures weren't satisfying due to the light.
This Peak is exactly on the border between the two cantons Ticino and Uri but the summit is part of the "Comune di Airolo" which is in Ticino and therefore is still located in the Italian speaking part of Switzerland.
There would have been a more logical Route including Pizzo Centrale which would have led circleing us around the Sella Lake, but one of my hiking partners was not "feeling it" and therefore that peak waits for me for the next time. Below you will find the route we did this time, having said that, I would recommend to start out the opposite way we did (so with Pizzo Canariscio and follow the ridge around, passing on from Pizzo Prevat to Pizzo Centrale and back down from the northern side of the lake).
Level: T4- (the "-" is because even if there is a need to climb sometimes, there aren't many situations where it's really exposed, rather it's just steep or you've got big rocks on which you can safely stand.
