Pizzo d'Orsirora (CH) - 2 603 meters

Nr 91

Second Peak of today's 3 peak hike in the Gotthard region (Winterhorn-Pizzo d'Orsirora-Pizzo dell'Uomo).

The peak is between two lakes (Lago d'Orsino and lago d'Orsirora), having said that, from the summit of this mountain you cannot see either one of them. The reason for that is that the Pizzo d'Orsirora is a classical mountain with two different peaks where in this case the lower one is the one you can easily see from below (second and 11th picture), but the higher one which gives the name is slightly behind it and basically a bit hidden (7th and 14th picture).

To be honest, we had to closely check out the surroundings to ensure we're really standing on its top when we were up there, so actually there's nothing really spectacular to tell about the top of the peak itself. Even the views are quite poor when measured against the other mountains of today.

Having said that, the hike to and from it is beautiful: we walked over from Winterhorn on paths 855 and 850 explained at page 546-547 of the first Book of the CAS Guides about the Ticino-Region (Dal Gridone al Passo del San Gottardo), all on quite difficult but never exposed terrain outside of all mountain paths.

The peak itself is listed at page 545 of the same book.

The whole surroundings are are just beautiful, simply because it looks pretty surreal, like some kind of rock garten which has some lakes in it. I think the pictures below speak for themselves; you can see why this region is also famous with the name of rock-desert.

Level: T3+  (at least the route we took, I think that if you walk up from another path you could easily get down to T3-).
