Long hike today for which I took an off-day from work.
As this was my last weekend before shoulder surgery, I wanted to do one of the most iconic mountains in the region (Pizzo di Claro) and luckily my friend Pietro agreed to come up there with me.
This one here was our first peak of the two for today (Piz de Molinera - Pizzo di Claro), and was part of the ridge we took to get to our main goal of the day.
We drove up to Prepiantò by car and from there walked up to this peak at first coming from south/south-east and therefore from the canton of Graubünden, following the ridge on path 1103 explained at page 690 of the 3rd book of the Swiss alpine Guides of the Ticino alps). The peak itself is marked at page 689.
On our way there was a mountain cross which indicated another mountain (I think Piz Martum if I'm not completely mistaken) but as it's not marked in my guides nor on the swiss map, i decided to not count it in my list.
It's the first one of two today where I took this decision, also because as said in the comment to the peaks in the U.S., I have to balance out the reached peaks as not all the ones in the U.S where real mountains.
The whole walk today was really strenuous and I wouldn't probably do it again like this, but if your goal of the day is only this Piz de Molinera and you just want to have a short but good ascent, then this peak is perfect! in fact, we were here after 1 hour 50 minutes and the views of the Bellinzonese Region are spectacular all the way as once you're out of the woods, you basically walk up the whole ridge.
There also is a marked mountain path all the way, even if after a while it gets quite exposed and steep I never had the feeling of being in danger.
Cool peak and the first for me on this side of Ticino.. but as said, it basically was only the warm-up today.
