Observation Point (USA) - 1 983 meters

Nr 118

Observation Point is the seventh and last peak we climbed during our Usa trip. We actually also went to other points around Bryce Canyon but I decided to not include them (even if all in all it was a 4 hour hike) as they are not worth a "peak-spot" in my list.

Also, Observation Point is not a real mountain but as so often in the American national parks a viewpoint to walk up to. Observation Point is the most difficult to reach in Zion National Park in terms of altitude and effort (at least from the official paths which are advertised on the official maps).

It's a no-go for people with vertigo, as it has some very exposed passages... we even met a girl who slipped her way down on her ass when the exposure was scary. For her defence, I have to admit that it really was steep and there was the possibility of a fatal fall at any time. On the other hand, the paths are so wide that this cannot actually happen. The Paths are (as always in the USA) perfect!

From up here you get the best view of Zion NP and if you are fit enough and have enough time, you just have to come up here. The hike (see link to the route below) is quite long, so it is recommended to start early enough and take enough to drink, because there are no refill possibilities at all.

Everything else is perfectly organised, the signs are clear and the access to the beginning of the trail is also simplified by the shuttle buses.

Thank you USA, it was beautiful here! And thank you observation Point, you were the last peak for Katrin before having our baby, from now on peaks are a bit out of reach :-)
