Fourth and last one in today's 4-Peak hike in Italy (Poncione di Ganna - Monte Minisfreddo - Monte San Bernardo - Monte Rho d'Arcisate).
These 4 peaks aren't listed in any guide of mine but there is 1 (and only ..) good reason we decided to do a hike around here. In fact, one of my objectives in this whole summit hunt game I started for myself, was to possibly have stood at least one time on all peaks that we can see from our apartment. 3 out of 4 peaks of today are in sight from our balcony and therefore it was only a matter of time until I had to appear up here :-)
This one, although being the lowest of the day, had some very interesting details to it. While standing on top looking south, you realise that you are standing on the first real elevation for hundreds of kilometres. It feels like being on the first peak of the Luganese Pre-Alps which then turn into the "real" Alps, as in front of you all you see is the flatness of the Padan Plain. I'm not sure if it really is the most southern one as stated before as likely out of sight there are other ones, but for sure that's the sensation you get..in fact, you even get a glimpse of Milan's skyscrapers which are 60 Km away.
On top there is historic War-Monument remembering fallen soldiers and giving a statement for peace around the world. Beside that there is a little stone-table which was perfect to have a little snack.
From here we had to walk back the whole thing to get back to our car (passing all other 3 peaks again).
I'm convinced there could be smarter ways to close the hike but with parking the car where we did, this was our only option (not a problem though, just be aware that there are more options for sure to personalise your hike).
In case you want to do this 4-peak hike, be sure to have enough water in your bag as there are no refill stations (rivers, fountains or similar..).
Paths are basic and simple, only the final section needs a bit of trapper instinct to find the right way (6th picture), that's the reason for the "+" in the level-info below.
