60th summit in Ticino.
Seventh one of todays 10 peaks hike (Camusio-Cima Torrione-Motto Rotondo-Monte Gradiccioli-Monte Pola-Sasso della Gallina-Monte Magno-Monte Magino-Zottone-Poncione di Breno).
The Monte Magno is one of the main mountains on the famous Tamaro-Lema Hike. The normal path would just go around it as the peak itself is pretty steep but now that I've been on top of it , I would recommend to everybody passing by to walk up.
Why? Because it gives you a little challenge off path that brings you a bit out of the routine and because the views from it are great. On one side you have the Maggiore Lake, on the other the Lugano Lake and on the northern side you see the big ridge+summit of the Monte Gradiccioli that from here is very impressive.
The peak is listed at page 483 in the official guides of the Swiss Alpine Club; vol 5. Guida delle prealpi ticinesi. There is also a path explained which comes up from the southern side (nr. 735) but we didn't know that and therefore just hiked up from the eastern and most steep side. On one side it was quite hard and slippery, on the other side we had the chance to get beautiful pictures there (pic 6 for example).
Level: T3- (at least the path we chose to go up)
