The Monte Bré is the 8th-smallest mountain in the Canton Ticino.
It's listed in the official guides of the CAS (Club Alpino Svizzero) at page 352 of the 5th volume (Guida alle prealpi ticinesi).
What to do on a sunny mid-december day when your girl is out of town, there is no snow on the mountains and therefore no skiing possible + you wake up late because you partied until 3 a.m.?
Answer: Go out there and add a new summit to your list...
It's actually quite strange that this peak enters so late in my summit hunt list, as it's one of the few which I can reach starting from my current flat (total 2,5 hours hike, up and back).
Having said that, it's not the first time I've been on top of this mountain, but it's the first time I've been there with the purpose of this summit-list. After this hike I did many trail runs up here from Lugano, it's the perfect training mountain for me! Therefore also the pics are a bit.."special". I promise that I will do better ones next time I'm up..
As I wanted to reach it in a different manner than normally, I tried a new way up which resulted being an old path which is not cleaned nor kept accessible anymore. This means that I've got more action than expected this day and even got a bit lost in the woods. (3rd picture).
I started walking up from 46°01'05.729"N 8°58'38.783"E (above Viganello) through the valley which leads to Bré (village) from there it's only 20 minutes to the peak.
For the descent I decided to go the normal way through Cureggia.
For the sake of not risking anybody's life as it really makes no sense to repeat this path I took this one time, I'll just put the normal way up I use for my trail runs in the route below :-)
