And then all of a sudden, it actually happened, we hiked in a U.S. national park...and not just any national park but in Yosemite.
For our holidays, we organised a car rental trip on the American West Coast this year and the first stop after having landed in SF was this one.
I had already spent a few hours online at home to explore the most spectacular places hiking once we should be here. Unfortunately it was not possible to go to the half dome and since Katrin was pregnant, the hikes themselves had not to be too difficult.
Glacier Point is a viewpoint which can be easily reached by car over a mountain road and in reality it is not a real peak. But I decided to include it in my list for two reasons:
1- We started our hike from Glacier Point and after a long hike we returned to this viewpoint, so technically we hiked to it.
2- In the main valley (Yosemite), these "points" all over the map and are considered important excursion destinations, although it has also some peaks around, I am convinced that it would be a pity not to consider these places in a list like this. In exchange, I will not consider some smaller peaks on the rest of my personal summit hunt in order not to artificially increase the number of mountains I have climbed. For example although there are different "points" in Bryce canyon and I've been to all of them, they will not be included here..
Glacier Point itself is a wonderful viewpoint which should be visited by everyone who comes here. Regarding the hike itself, below is the link to the route we have taken, Glacier point was starting and end point of our three peak hike of today (Glacier Point - Sentinel Dome - Taft Point).
There are restaurants and toilets up here.. it's a really "commercial" place in the end but truly worth a visit for sure!
Level: T2+ (the hike from Taft point to here is on a nice narrow path in the woods which follows the steep wall going straight down to the bottom of the valley).
