This was the third peak in todays 3 summit hike (Monte Gambarogno, Monte Paglione, Covreto).
We took the north-eastern route, coming from Monte Paglione following path 614, explained in the official guides of the CAS (Swiss Alpine Club), page 438 of the 5th volume (Guida delle Prealpi ticinesi).
The only one with a mountain summit book today.
Even if lower in height than Monte Gambarogno, it definitely gives you better views of your surroundings as it's located at the end of the Ridge. From up here you basically have a 360° view which goes from Locarno to Stresa (I) giving you a perfect idea on how big the Lago Maggiore really is.
Of course there are other paths to reach the summit which are physically more demanding, we just had to walk 15 minutes from Monte Paglione following the ridge on top (first and second picture).
It's perfect for a sunday hike in lower heights, as it's not a really famous destination in Switzerland and it's likely that you're completely alone up here.. In fact, if you meet someone they probably walked up from Italy where there is a Cable car coming up the mountain (not to the top though).
Having said that, only the top of the mountain is "nice" in terms of hiking pleasure as most of the walk is just in the woods with no demanding situations which is sometimes pretty boring; good for a walk with the kids basically..
