We walked up this mountain following path 268 which comes up from Motto della Croce and is explained at page 264 of the 5t volume of the CAS (Club Alpino Svizzero). The peak itself is listed at the same page.
The Caval Drossa was the 2nd in our three-peak walk of today (Motto della Croce – Caval Drossa – Monte Bar) and like the other two, from a views standpoint it was just unbelievable. In fact, all peaks of today are connected by a ridge and you get a feeling that the first two are just the big shoulder of Monte Bar more than being peaks on their own.
Even if the most cool part of today was yet to come (the big ridge between Caval Drossa and Monte Bar) this mountain is one of the most important landmarks around Lugano and therefore it was finally time that we hiked it up.
As part of the Scenic trail, the path we did could also be used for some trail running training. I’ll have to keep that in mind if one day I want to start this crazy sport too J.
